Consecrate Yourselves

There is so much to learn from the book of Joshua in the Bible! Here is part 2 of what we can learn from this incredible book.

Before the Israelites took Jericho, they were in this strange, in-between place. Moses was dead, they had crossed over the Jordan into the promised land, they had seen the miracles of God, but they had not yet taken possession of the land.

The old wilderness was gone, but they weren’t fully in the new yet.

Maybe you can resonate with this feeling. Perhaps you are in a transitional phase. It can feel quite disorientating. Should you just settle here? Should you go back? Is it time to forward, or is there more waiting to do?

God gives a very interesting command to the Israelites in this in-between place. He says that the whole army has to be circumcised, which looks like it brings a delay to their progress because they have to stop and wait for everyone to heal before they can move on.

However, God’s command was important for setting them apart. He wasn’t worried that they had to wait a few more days. The consecration of the army was what was important.

‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’ (Joshua 3:5)

So what do we do today? Consecrate ourselves. Set yourself apart for Him. Prioritise time with Him. Cut out distractions. It’s not a pointless time; He’s setting you apart. He’s making you ready.
