Leave the Manna

The Israelites were in an in-between place at the start of the book of Joshua. They had crossed over the Jordan into the promised land, but they hadn’t yet taken possession of it.

Something interesting happened in this place – they ate some of the produce of the land, and the manna that God had provided for them in the wilderness stopped the day after.

‘The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land.’ (Joshua 5:11-12)

Even before they had fully entered into the new, they had to learn what it looked like to live in this new place and to gather and cook food again.

God took away the comforts of the last season in order to prepare them for what they were entering into.

It is interesting that He only did this after they chose to eat the produce of the new land. We sometimes have to make our own choices to let go of the old and begin to live in alignment with where God is taking us. This takes a step of faith.

So, in a transitional place between the old and the new, God will be teaching you and training you and helping you to grow into where He is taking you, even before you get there. Don’t resist. Lean into the new challenges and things that might feel stretching or uncomfortable.

Don’t hold on to old comforts because they won’t serve you well in the new place.
