The Joy of Generosity

Paul quotes Jesus, saying, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’ (Acts 20:35)

There is a unique kind of joy that can be found in generosity. Giving sacrificially is one of those kingdom principles that doesn’t really make sense in the world’s eyes of self-sufficiency and comfort, but if you’re a generous person, you’ll know the kind of joy that I’m talking about.

When we give, we grow in our understanding of our identity as sons and daughters of God. Jesus is the ultimate giver – He gave everything on the cross! As we give and be generous towards others, we become more and more like Jesus.

Your generosity is also a powerful declaration of your faith. As you choose to give sacrificially, you are being counter cultural, and you are coming into alignment with the kingdom of God.

Jesus also allowed other people to give Him money, expensive perfume, food, and all sorts, not because he actually needed it – He was the Son of God! He could get everything he needed without having to rely on humans! But He chose to allow people to give to him because he knew that they would be incredibly blessed themselves by living generously.

So, my encouragement to you is to dive deep into the joy of generosity, with your money, your time, your skills and your resources. There is no limit to the joy that can be found in giving to others.
