Creative Potential

You are an image bearer of God. He is creative, so you are too. You are actually hardwired to create, which does mean that you have the ability to exercise your creative gifts without the Spirit of God. I mean, there are creatives all over the world that don’t know Jesus!

But God wants us to use our creativity to glorify Him.

Let’s look at two Bible passages.

In Genesis 11, we read about the tower of Babel. They were building an enormous structure with cutting edge engineering and architecture. It looks like a great achievement!

However, they were building it for their own advantage.

A contrasting building is Solomon’s temple. This also was incredible architecture. It was ornate and exquisite, and it was built to glorify God.

In 1 Kings 8:11 we read that the glory of the Lord inhabited Solomon’s temple. Whereas with the tower of Babel, God didn’t inhabit it, because they were building it to glorify themselves.

We must remember this verse: ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.’ Psalm 127:1

So use your creativity, but use it in partnership with the Spirit of God, not to your own advantage, but to advance His Kingdom.
